about

This is a song I wrote for my parents for Christmas 2011.

A bit of context: I was born in 1996, and my brothers in 1998, 2001, and 2005. That explains the chorus. You can buy it if you like - I'd be chuffed.

lyrics

When the ship sails out of the harbour
Does it know where it will next lay its anchor
The writing on the wall, there's a storm in the sky
But when I'm curled into a ball, it'll never pass me by

You were the needle in my compass
You are the wind in my sails
And with the love of those before me
There's no way I can fail

Because life is like a cold dark night
Lain exhausted on a beach
But when the moon shines down
I'm drawing circles on the ground
The stars are their eyes and they teach me
How to fly

CHORUS;

1996, when we open our lips
1998, we turn towards fate
2001, when the day is done
2005, for the rest of our lives,

1996, something new in the mix
1998, but it's oh so late
2001, we don't see the sun
2005, when it lets us thrive

And in the strike of the hammer and the stroke of the brush
Nothing lies in hope truly worthy of your trust
Your mind is a projector and your judgement is a lens
One false step and you can never make amends
(x2)

CHORUS

When the ship sails out of the harbour
Does it know where it will next lay its anchor
