Written for a school project - the prompt was to creatively interpret the book "Ethan Frome" by Edith Wharton however we liked - Sam and I wrote and recorded a song.
lyrics
Lying here where the blood runs in the snow
You and I
We already know
Your smile struck red on the New England winter
On horseback from town
Just you and me and Zeena
[refrain]
The elm tree sways above us
Fresh blood where you struck the bark
Between you and her winter
We're gonna wander in the dark
I don't know if you can hear me
But I'm sorry that the dance drags on
Because I found my summer in the touch of your hair
Oh god, what have I done
On the night as dark as Egypt
We spoke of everyday things
To hang our greyish cobwebs
On these walls
Your sombre violence constrained my fears
And my lips are in your hair and I can hear the summer birds sing
[refrain]
There's nothing I can do
In the end it's just me and you
I wanna get out now
The sled's out back and I know how
[refrain]
